In preparation for this show, I thought I’d lay out the flowers I’ve been working on. I tend to work in spurts, and I haven’t looked at them for awhile, so I thought I’d take an assessment. 16 bases fairly well done, 9 blocks still to adorn with metal bits.

Here is just a part of my collection of nuts and bolts, copper scraps, washers, springs, screws and scrap. I pick them up whenever I see them walking around. Keep your eyes down and you’d be amazed what you’ll find.

I like the found object idea. Are they finished or are you going to attach blossoms?

Yes, I have yet to add the blossoms. I am thinking they will also be mutated, perhaps some 4×4s, some 3×3s, some circles, some triangles, maybe a pentagon here or there.
I think it’s really interesting that I feel I am still exploring the 5×5 idea even when I am creating things as a foil to it as I am with these. Or just doing one element of the 5×5 as I did with those cedar wall pieces. It’s all still related, but different.
