Textured Cedar Piece

I’ve been adding texture to this piece and contemplating a finish, if any. I feel like a wax or oil might accentuate the light effects that are possible with the alternating textures, but I’m not entirely sure. I had thought of painting at least part of it, as well, with red, white, or black. Thoughts?

Maybe you could use different colored stains, it might help distinguish the layers. I like the texture alot, especially with the lighting.

What are the dimensions of the piece including depth?

It’s 17.5 inches square and about 1.5 inches thick. Each circle is probably 1/4 – 3/8 inch deeper than the previous.
