Recent Carpentry Work

Josh e-mailed me some pictures of the house that we worked on together.

I mainly worked with Josh Carlson and Mike Owens on this house.  In the above picture Josh made the arches, Mike did the layout and I finished the rest.

This was another one of Josh’s amazing arches!

Mike did this incredible ceiling!  I watched him spend countless hours working on a ladder to create this beauty.  I worked on these windows as well.

That is amazing work. Those arches are nuts! Looks like he used several boards mitered and glued together. Did he use a router for the radius? Very cool. The wood looks to be poplar … is it going to be painted?

Is there wallboard behind the trim you put up, or is the trim on studs?

Please tell me that that isn’t a metal door stuck in the midst of your beautiful woodwork!

That ceiling is wicked, too. Very impressive.

Do you know whose house it is? Where is it?

You are right about the arches, he did use a radius jig to make templates. The columns on the far left and right are attached to the wall with a backer but everything else was just glued and nailed.

The wood is maple, although it probably could have been poplar because they ended up staining it a darker cherry color. The panels behind that are a little different are birch but everything blended together well after it was stained.

The door was just there for construction purposes. The house is owned by Jeff Drummond located out by Booneville in a development called Napa Valley. It is better that suburbia because the houses are well made and built among the existing tall trees.
