Selling Art is funny.

I live in one of the top American eclectic art communities and cliche is still the norm.

I struggle daily with the idea of selling. If your art is really about something not just 'a look' it's not just the consumers that it is hard to sell to but the curators as well. In the spring I got all gungho about getting a show in a gallery and I took some of my work to different Artist calls. To no avail. I was quickly turned away as the precisely painted lemons were much more appealing then my collaged abstractions, what is it? Is it sexual? Heaven forbid!

Have you ever tried to get a gallery show? Perhaps something like that might be better set up to actually sell your work, since usually people go there to purchase art, not eat dinner. They might also have a client list they could sell your artwork to.

I think it would take a while to start selling things online (both to set up and to gain popularity). If you were prepared to wait 3 or 4 months it might work, though.

I like his work and his idea. Where is he from? Nothing is really following through with this whole job search thing. Maybe I should get back to doing a drawing a day but this time start selling them.
