Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

I first saw the SawStop table saw a few years ago. Their early demo videos showcased its amazing safety techology that allows the SawStop saw to stop the blade’s spinning and drop down through the table when it encounters anything meat-like (i.e. your finger!). You keep your finger for the price of a saw blade, which seems like a pretty good trade to me.

Their first demo videos showed a hot dog stopping the blade, which was pretty cool, if a little cartoony. Now, the inventor has a new video showing up on YouTube in which he uses his finger to demo the tech. That’s faith.

That is pretty amazing that it can have such a quick response time. Probably worth the cost of a finger. It would take some real nerve to demonstrate!

My dad has had the contractor model for a few months now, and besides the perfect accuracy of the fence, the powerful motor, and the sexy look, it’s got that cool feature you never hope to use.

I was using over the past weekend (also making cutting boards for christmas) and was touching the stopped blade and watching the circuit LEDs change colors. I promise not to let it change how I use the saw, but it’s damn reassuring.
