I was in a Detroit last week for work, and noticed a strange photographic phenomenon in the hotel’s elevator. The walls were mirrored and the ceiling had circular lights, creating this familiar photographic effect.

What was Detroit like? The picture is pretty cool. Looks like something out of 2001: A space odessy.

Reminded me a lot of Des Moines, actually, although I’m sure I didn’t get a complete picture. The downtown seemed to be undergoing a similar revitalization (probably due in part to Superbowl 40, which is there in a few weeks), but the outskirts was made up of parking lots and chain stores and restaurants. Still, it was not nearly the smoldering ruins it’s made out to be, and I had a good time there, though I am still tired from the long days and time changes.
