Totem Poles

I think these are the perfect sculptures. I’ve been reading a lot about NW Native American Art and Culture, and there’s a gallery near my office that shows more modern works in this vein. Just ran across this site with lots of vintage totem pole pictures.


Stone City

You’ve probably been to Stone City, near Cedar Rapids, and probably know about the artist’s colony that was there in the 1930s. A nice summary of the who, what and why.

Mark Kostabi

… is most famous for painting the cover of Guns ‘N’ Roses’ Use Your Illusion albums, but he’s also a very successful (and controversial) painter. He writes a column on artnet.com that you should check out. He’s a pretty good writer, though thinks pretty highly of himself.
