More Burning Experiments

Published on June 5, 2006

After the success of my last burning art experience, I had an idea. I laid down some of the rusty metal bits laying around my work area, and put them on a scrap piece of cedar. After assembling a rough 5×5 on the wood, I took a torch to it. Here is the result:

Garage Sale Collector\'s Spools 25 cents

Sarah and I went to a few garage sales this weekend, and at one, I picked up a bunch of wooden spools. I’m sure I’ll use them for some art purposes, but in what form I’m not sure. For now, I like this display, which is how the old lady who sold them to me had them displayed. I asked her to include the sign with the spools. I like her handwriting.

Art School Confidential

Published on

I went to see Art School Confidential at Fox Tower tonight, and left feeling pretty let down. And not just because tickets were $9 each.

The first third of the movie was good, some very funny moments and lots of characters that, have you ever been to art school, you will immediately recognize. Including the guy who is there for “the naked chicks.” In case you were wondering, do not go to art school for the models. Many of them are men, and few of them are attractive. Some of them are hairy in all the wrong places.

Then, the movie lapses unneccesarily into a murder mystery. It was funny, and then … it was not. And characters would appear, disappear, and reappear at the strangest times (see: the gay roommate). Basically the last 2/3 was all over the place, and not in a good Jackson Pollock way.

Check it out as a rental if you can’t find anything else to watch.

What was the last good art movie you saw?

9rules

We have been admitted to the 9rules network!

A few weeks ago, I entered Descending Ashtray into the ring for 9rules’ 4th membership drive. I know this is a good blog, but now we’ve been validated by the largest blog network out there. It’s a selective network, so we are in good company and this is a mark of approval of sorts. A feather in our caps!

I’m guessing this will boost our readership at some level as well, meaning more folks checking out the upcoming collaborative flower show.

Keep up the good work!
