I finally broke down and got a planer. It was important for my current window project. Brandy keeps asking me, “How many more power tools do you need”. I respond by saying, “Thats a good question, you have to have the right tool for the job”.

The planer is awesome! It is better that any I have used in the past.

Power to the Woodshop

I am finally getting more power to my shop! A friend of mine, Mike Webster, in town happened to come across Descending Ashtray and read one of my posts. I am not sure which post it was but apparently I commented on the fact that I did not have enough power in the garage. (Mike helped Tony get Cafe di Scala up and running). So he called me up and offered to help. He owns his own electric company and today he sent a couple of guys over to dig a trench and run some 220 out to the shop. It is awesome! Now I am going to have a whole panel full of breakers! Thanks Mike! And thanks to Descending Ashtray!

Wide Open

wanting my voice to be liked by all
wanting the words to say something strong

wide open, windmills and walking
baby says I
we are always talking

insane mind
restlessly kind
don’t you know, I love you

warmer days are coming
selfish acts are troubling
restless nights are sleeping
in our beds

give me your foot
I will boost you into the tree
we can listen all night
to the leaves

falling in the grass
heading towards the sea
with your breast in my hand
how happy we could be

saying that you will see the fall
saying that we will live through it all

Tiling the kitchen and Little Miss Sunshine

Most of my free time the last couple of weeks has been spent working on this tiling project.  It was quite the learning experience.  We bought the large tiles at the Habit for Humanity reuse store.  But there were not enough of them to do the entire floor.  So that is how the tile rug idea came about.  The small colored tiles in the center are slate that we cut into strips from a 6×6 grid.  The dark tiles were ones that I cut with wet saw from 13″ tiles.  That part was very time consuming.  The total number of tiles in the center came to 567!  Laying them in thinset was also very tricky because there were three different thickness that all had to be somewhat level on the surface.  Lets just say I am happy that this project is over with.  It was fun to do the creative work but spending that much time on your knees can be painstaking.

So after all the work was over I took the day off and played some disc golf and watched Little Miss Sunshine.    It was funny and inspiring.  I have not laughed that much in a movie since The Gods must be Crazy!
